Following its recently formed VAR-integrator partnership with XipLink, Q-KON, an established engineering group and provider of managed network services and turn-key solutions, has announced the successful installation of hub optimisation technology with its Internet Broadband Service (IBS) satellite access service.
XipLink is a global developer and supplier of wireless bandwidth optimisation products. The company's XipLink Optimisation Software (XipOS) core product delivers SCPS-based TCP acceleration, streaming payload compression and XRT real time Optimisations for small UDP packets while also integrating the XipLink Hub Optimisations (XHO) for optimal web traffic performance.
IBS satellite access service is a point-to-multipoint service that provides a two-way communication circuit from an on-premise earth station at the customer site to the Teleport facility housed in Washington, USA. The IBS satellite network solution is a star-network that provides Internet from any location in Africa directly to the US-based Teleport.
The installation was completed in December and Q-KON is utilizing the high capacity XA-30K 155 Mbps hub optimizer at the XipLink gateway facility and low cost XA-500C appliances at customer sites throughout Africa.
The result is maximum capacity over stressed satellite links to give the best price/performance ratio in the satellite business. There is now a US-based Internet hub termination point in addition to an Africa hub termination point. The benefit of a US termination point is generally faster access to websites located there, and significantly fewer Internet hops – a major benefit to satellite over terrestrial competitors.
The benefits of this is direct access to US Internet backbone, fewer hops typically reducing hop count, all of which is web-traffic and TCP optimised through the Q-KON managed network.
“This network is specifically developed to support quality-of-service profiles for specific user applications. The integration of XipLink technology boosts our capacity to deliver a range of dedicated Internet access services, committed information rate circuits for corporate applications, bulk carrier segments for private networks and shared services for individual customers,” explains Dawie de Wet, CEO, Q-KON.
The VAR-integrator partnership and first successful installation of XipLink has strengthened Q-KON’s offering of affordable VSAT services for consumers and all-sized businesses.
De Wet says bandwidth and cost are considered key challenges to greater investment in satellite technology, but industry-leading initiatives like the company’s partnership with XipLink are making things easier.
“We share the vision of increased throughput and reduced cost in the delivery of satellite technology. In a market in which resources are tight and there is not always the opportunity to acquire additional training, the result of this alliance will add significant value,” he adds.
As an authorized VAR-Integrator for the Xiplink range of technologies Q-KON will also drive the distribution and integration of the Xiplink range of products to 3rd party operators including the distribution and supply of the products.
