Edge-Core Networks, a global networking solution provider offering a complete range of enterprise-level and service provider/carrier Ethernet networking equipment and services, has launched the ECS4810-28TS, an enterprise Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet stackable switch.
The solution consists of 24 1000BASE-TX ports and 4 Gigabit combo (RJ-45/SFP) ports, with an extended operating temperature range from -20˚C to 65˚C.
The ECS4810-28TS, the newest member of Edge-Core’s ECS 4500 Series of Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet high-performance switches targeting the SMB and Enterprise markets, provides resilient stacking capability of up to 16 units with a 4G stack backplane and can be managed through a single IP address.
User-friendly, the switch can be managed via straightforward CLI commands or an easy-to-use web GUI. In addition, the ECS4810-28TS supports IPv6 management functions for SNMP, Telnet, and TFTP, positioning the switch for use in both today and tomorrow’s networks.
“The market continues to look to simple but powerful solutions that are easily integrated and boost the performance of the network. This solution will add value to South Africa’s rapidly expanding small-to-medium business market as well as the larger, enterprise market, both of which are seeking to incorporate network infrastructure that meets current requirements. Aside from cost, these requirements include the ability to interconnect with- and facilitate high speed high-end Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices to bolster overall performance,” says Paul Luff, country manager, Edge-Core Networks.
Key Features and Benefits:
Hardware Stacking
Hardware stacking capability supports up to 16 units per stack managed through a single IP address. The bi-directional hardware stacking connections seek the best and shortest path route between switches while providing 4 Gbps of backplane bandwidth. The stacking mechanism recovery time is less than 9 seconds, while master failover time is 2 seconds.
High Availability
IEEE 802.1w Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol provides loop-free network and redundant path with rapid convergence. IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation (LACP) across stacked units provides more bandwidth and helps ensure uptime and availability. IGMP Snooping limits bandwidth intensive video traffic to only the requestors. Broadcast Storm Control prevents faulty end stations from degrading overall system performance.
Advanced Quality of Service
The ECS4810-28TS provides standard 802.1p Class of Service (CoS) and differentiated service code point (DSCP) field classification. Strict priority queuing ensures that highest priority traffic is serviced ahead of all others while Weighted Round Robin (WRR) scheduling ensures differential prioritization of packet flow. DiffServ Traffic Shaping Flow based rate-limiting preserves network bandwidth and allows maximum control of network resources together with marking and reclassification on a per packet basis based upon differing parameters (ACL, DSCP, IP precedence, and VID).
Enhanced Security
To provide port security, the ECS4810-28TS uses IP Source Guard and Port Security allowing access to ports based on MAC address, limits the number of devices using a port, and protects against MAC flooding attacks. In addition, three types of Access Control Lists (ACLs) can be used to restrict access to sensitive network resources by denying packets based on source and destination MAC address, IP addresses, or TCP/UDP ports. The switch also supports DHCP Snooping, which ensures that DHCP requests are sent only to the correct server, and private VLANS that can isolate edge ports.
IPv6 Ready
The ECS4810-28TS supports Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), offering benefits such as dual protocol stacking, allowing IPv4 and IPv6 to co-exist in the same device. Further the switch supports a host of IPv6 management capabilities, stateless auto-configuration, manual configuration, as well as QoS/SNMP/PING/HTTP/Telnet/SSH/DNS/SNTP/TFTP for IPv6.
“Enhanced switching capacity, hardware stacking, and an extended operating temperature range make the ECS4810-28TS well suited for high performance server aggregation and connecting high-end network attached storage (NAS) devices, thus empowering speedy workgroups, backbone upgrades, and gigabit to the desktop for power users,” explained Garfield Hsieh, Edge-Core Networks’ PLM Manager. “The ECS4810-28TS enhances network services for middle- and large-sized enterprises and is an excellent choice for mixed Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet installations.”
