Lesotho Queen, UNFPA present blankets to elderly people

Lesotho Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso, in partnership with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), on Thursday presented blankets to more than 300 elderly people of Mokhotlong, the country’s coldest district.

The queen said elderly people should always be protected against coldness as they are the most important people in all societies.

She said the elderly were facing great challenges in their respective communities such as rape, abuse, murder and most often are labelled witches and often targeted for elimination.

She noted that old people were sources of historical information and should therefore be protected to ensure they live longer in order to pass on their knowledge to future generations.

Mokhotlong is prone to snowfalls in winters.
